Hi Mike, We are just back home and we would like to thank you for the two tours we did with you, a very proud Dane. We too feel the freedom biking generates in you and felt very much at home with you in Copenhagen and its countryside. We enjoyed your banter and humour and hope you are well and rushing around Denmark on your bike.
All the very best, Kerry and Mark McGowan, Australia

Hi Mike, Back in OZ. Had a great holiday and you helped make Denmark one of the highlights. In retrospect we should have stayed longer but I guess it gives us an excuse to get back there one day. The bike ride was great and your passionate guiding was an inspiration to us both, its great to see someone who loves there country as much as you obviously do. We want to get to Auckland some day in the not too distant future so we may catch up with you there, if not, the offer of a place to stay while you check out our part of Australia is definite. We live right next to the southern ocean, plenty of room, lots of beaches forests and wineries to keep you interested. Hope you are fit and well and we may catch up sometime in the future. Hi Mike, I just wanted to say thank you for a fanatastic evening tour last Monday. I have visited Copenhagen a number of times over the last 3 years and spent many a happy evening walking around enjoying the many beautiful sites in the city. On Monday evening I felt this enjoyment of the city was taken to a new level as you introduced me to the heart and spirit of Copenhagen as well as the physical beauty. As you know my work in Denmark is coming to an end so it could be a long time until I return to the city but my memories of it's beauty will always be in my mind and thanks to your tour it's spirit will always be in my heart. Many thanks for a memorable evening and all the best for the future. Kind regards, Andy, York, UK

Hello Mike, We are now back in France. This is school holiday and I should see the students next week for their exams. We really enjoyed our stay in Denmark and the students loved the bike tour with you. Thanks a lot for telling us so much about life in Denmark. Copenhagen is also a very nice town and I feel like I would come back with my own family for holidays. We wish you all the best for your project of cycling the Himalayas in September. We hope we can hear about it in the French news! Take care of yourself. Best regards, Nadine, Nantes, France. PS: I attach the picture I took of the group before going round the town.

Danes cycle an average of 1,000 kilometres annually per capita and most streets have separated bicycle lanes. One of the best ways to explore Copenhagen, therefore, is on your bike. A morning cycle tour - a peaceful, leisurely whirl which took in the charming medieval old town, Old City Square, Castle Island, Chistiansborg Palace, Nyhavn, the Royal Palace and the Cathedral of Copenhagen - was an ideal way to get my bearings before exploring the city in greater depth on foot. Clearly passionate about his country and its capital, Mike made an otherwise enjoyable trip a particularly memorable one. Helen Boylan, Ireland

Hi Mike, Thank you. Without your personal journey to realising that you had to follow your passion we would not have had the joy of discovering, in the true sense of the word, how wonderful Copenhagen is. Simply you made us fall in love with the city. You led us through the heart and soul of your home town. However, best of all was being in your company. There was no small talk- on the first stop we got down to discussing meaningful things that matter to you and the rest of Denmark-poltics, history, the stealth but loveable Brits...all done with a terrific sense of self mocking and self deprecation. I will start reading Either/Or in the hope that I get your personal therapist Kierkegaard to sort me out like you. I know that writing here and adding to to your fan club will mean that you will have more people eager to have you guide them- deservedly so-but we will always feel that this was a unique experience just for clare and me. If you ever need a table at Noma, just let me know- I have connections!!!! With warmest regards. Staph & Clare (London)

Hi Mike, It was great to meet you last Saturday. I absolutely fell in love with Copenhagen while I was there for the long weekend. The city, Danish design, the Nordic food and the people watching were all fantastic. I just wanted to drop you a quick line to say that I have not forgotten that I need to email you with my thoughts on a cycling tour for Auckland given it was my home town for 26 years and I am an Auckland girl through and through! As Jennie and I mentioned, we also have friends who are avid cyclists who may also have some helpful hints. I learnt so much on the tour and had a great time. I will be recommending it to my friends who are coming to Copenhagen later in the year. I just read about your cycle over the Himalayas - what a challenge, very inspirational. I love the principle "Attitude is Everything" - I am going to put it up on the wall of my office! Have a great day and I will be back in touch. Caroline, London / hometown: Auckland, NZ

My husband, 16-year old son, and I visited Copenhagen in early August 2010. We biked with Mike the day that we arrived from the US. The bike tour really helped to orient us to the wonderful city of Copenhagen. Mike's comments at the talk stops were interesting and insightful. I admired Mike's ability to keep the large group on the August 2 morning tour together. We had a great time. Thanks. Susan, Phil and Brendan from Washington DC.

My 2 friends and I came to Copenhagen for 4 days in August 2010. Accidently we ran into an add of Mike's bike tours, and luckily for us went for it! Mike is a wonderful and inspiring man, he has so much information about the city and the world, And he shared it with us and the group in a very moving way. We went on the day city tour and had so much fun that we came the next day for the "behind the scene" night tour. I recommend to everyone to give themselves this gift and see Copenhagen from within on the bikes. it's easy, and the stories and experiences you have along the way will expand your horizons. We have only one last word to say.. THANKS Galit, Yana and Chen from Israel.

Hi Mike, I'm the person you took on a private tour of Copenhagen last April 24, with detours to the Danish Jewish Museum and the climb up the church steeple. This is just a belated note to say Thank You again for a wonderful time. I haven't forgotten what a great host and interesting person you were and I hope to come back to Copenhagen some day––and to take one of your longer bike tours at that time. I planned to send this note a long time ago, but time flew by. Neighbors of mine are planning to go to Copenhagen for their wedding anniversary in October (10th anniversary, I think), and I've recommended to them that they take your tour. I hope they take my advice. I've also told many other friends and neighbors about you and the great bike tour I had. And, FYI, I recently read some stories that reminded me of you and your tours. The links are below. Please let me know if you are ever visiting New York City (Manhattan). I would enjoy meeting you there...or in Hoboken, NJ, where I live, if you would take the quick ferry ride across the Hudson River. I hope all's well with you. Best, Rob Calem

Dear Mike, I wanted to let you know that Cheapflights.com, the leading site for finding and publishing flight deals, recently featured Copenhagen in our recent "Top Ten Places to Bike across the World" blog feature and press release. Our "Top Ten" lists are quite popular, as they are read by thousands of people and often featured in other media outlets. You can find our biking destinations list here: http://news.cheapflights.com/2010/07/top-10-places-to-bike-around-the-world/, Since yours is the definitive site on biking Copenhagen, I thought you'd appreciate knowing how much we – and our readers – think of Copenhagen as a travel destination. I just discovered BikeCopenhagenWithMike.dk and thought it's one of the best biking-tourism sites I've seen; it's well designed, navigable, and has excellent written and visual content. Your cancer story was particularly poignant and I also enjoyed the photo of your feathered "boss." Dear Michael, Thank you for a wonderful bike ride. It was really a spectacular experience. I thought I would share this story with you. When my daughter Anna, now 21, was about 3 or 4 years old, her father was exasperated at not finding his keys. "I have looked everywhere!" says Simon. Anna replied. "No you haven't, you haven't looked in the place where they are!" This is a simple statement from a child. But I take it further. As soon as you focus your mind on the object, rather than panic that there is disorder, the solution is always there. When I lose something, I try to be really quiet and to acknowledge the one Mind who knows all and as man is his reflection man also then knows. Mary Bake Eddy talks about the one Mind in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures provides wonderful insights for living. I would encourage you to read the book. Best wishes, Caroline from Johannesburg

Compliments, Mike, On Tuesday, April 13, you conducted a bike tour of Copenhagen for my student group. I want you to know how much all of us enjoyed seeing Copenhagen by bicycle. The tour you provided us truly enhanced what we had studied about Denmark in the class I taught by helping us piece together how Denmark's past has helped create the modern state that it is today. We certainly appreciate your patience with us. Your tour of the city is an excellent adventure and one I hope I can experience again when I return to Copenhagen. We went on a bike tour of Copenhagen with Mike last week (late March). I am not a great cyclist and was a bit nervous, but I immediately felt safe in the care of Mike. He suited us up with bikes and helmets, explained how he does his tours - regular stops at key areas where he tells interesting and entertaining anecdotes about the city - and off we went. Copenhagen is made for cyclists, so we had absolutely no trouble with traffic or hills (there aren't any). Mike is a huge asset to the city of Copenhagen - he has a phenomenal knowledge of its history and deep devotion to its story. Throughout the day, Mike showed us parts of the city we simply wouldn't have seen any way else. By the time we got to the end, we'd learned a huge amount, had a spectacular day out, and made a friend in Mike. I can't recommend his tours more highly. Alexandra Hammond, London

Rainy and cold March day and I was the only customer; would Mike still run the tour? Yes he would - and it was so enjoyable. Mike is great company - knowledgable, intelligent, good-humoured and happy to tailor the information to the interest of his customers. One of the best city tours I've been on.(the rain cleared). Copenhagen is a wonderful city and by bike is certainly the best way to see it. Iolarwood, Dublin, Ireland

Mike, I was your 'problem' last Saturday. You know, the one who was the slowest, accident prone, etc. I want to thank you so very much for putting up with me. When we stated that we wanted to do your bike tour, neither my husband nor myself had any idea what was in store for us. We had missed your talk. I have had many issues with my back and leg and had I realized that we would be biking 22 - 23 klm. I would not have gone. However, once I started, I was determined to finish. With your constant encouragement and patience, I was able to complete the tour. Towards the end of the ride, you walked back to me and said "like the man from Chicago, yes you can". It took me longer than anyone to get to the city wall, but yes, I could. You have no idea what your kindness and encouragement meant to me and I thank you so very much. Had we not taken your Bike Tour, Bob and I would not have seen so much of Copenhagen and we are both so glad that we joined you. Without a doubt, I would/have recommended your tour, it was well worth it. Thanks again, Karen Daley, Chicago, IL USA

Exhilarating is the word for an evening ride through Copenhagen and its environs. What a thrill, natures elements surrounding you and the northern light of a setting sun over the city. It was a delight around every corner, neighborhood and city center. A feast for the eyes. After nearly 30 km I was totally energized. For any person thinking they know their way around a city, try a ride with Mike and become enthralled with the transformations of city life as only Danish humor can present. This green tour will spark a greater appreciation of culture, growth and change in the urban experience. This trip bares repeating many times. Thanks again Mike for a wonderful trip. I agree with all the positive comments about Mikes bike tour around the streets of Copenhagen. It was fascinating to soak up the atmosphere of this attractive city through the eyes of Mike, whose infectious enthusiam for life and living had us all entranced. Don't worry if you're not that fit...there are no inclines in Copenhagen and the pace is leisurely. Do bring some waterproof gear in case it rains. On our tour, we just happened to "bump" into the entire Danish Royal Family who were out and about to celebrate the Queen and Prince Consort's 42nd wedding anniversary. Mind you, for me, Mike was the real star of the show. Allister, Belfast, Northern Ireland

We discovered the leaflet for Mike's Bike tours in our hotel during our holiday in Denmark for the second year in a row and managed to fit in the City Tour on our last day. We are so glad we did. Although we had seen quite a lot of Copenhagen already, Mike took us to different parts and told us lots of facts and tales that, together with seeing the city from a new perspective was entertaining and fun. Mike is a great guy, who made the morning a great experience for us, and we would recommend it to anybody. Best wishes and thank you, Mike, from David and Anna in England. PS: great website too! :-)

Just returned from a weekend in Copenhagen. In a previous tour of Berlin I did and excellent bike tour of the city so was keen to repeat this in Copenhagen. Scoured the net and plumped for bike mike. Turned up for 10 am on Monday morning (literally 50 yards from the main station). It was a fantastic 4 hours (in the end after my early puncture! This required a trip back to base and a few laughs on the way!) Mike speaks perfect English and we meandered our way round all the sights of Copenhagen stopping for him to give entertaining anecdotes and a personal view of life from a Danish perspective. We discussed everything from football, to Danish people, the royal family, football, swedish women, football and also a bit of culture (no honestly, we did!). Like many European cities Copenhagen is built to cater for the cyclist. It's pretty much all cycle-laned off, very flat (yesss!) and very safe - all very important for non-regular cyclists like myself! We saw numerous lovely sights (see website) - we even went off the beaten track to see the last resting place of Denmark's favorite fairy taler H.C.A) and had a great philosophy debate on the meaning of life! Very enlightening Mike - really enjoyed that. Highlights included the feeling of the sun and wind in your face as we cruised alongside the many lakes and canals. It was liberating, relaxing and exhilerating all at the same time and made me question my office job! Remember I am not a cyclist so this does not require super-fit people to do this. It was the highlight of my weekend - I spent about 6 hours walking around the previous day and saw about 1/10th as much of the city as I did on the cycle tour. In summary - get in there and try it - you will not regret it - Danes have a great sense of humour - this one does anyway! We had some good banter as the English were blamed for Denmarks demise in the 1800s (tour price goes up!) then praised for bailing them in World War II (tour price reduced again!) Thanks Mike for a memorable 4 hours - nothing was too much trouble (I caused him enough with my puncture and my coat and drink gear constantly falling off my bike rack!) but he took it all in the right spirit and much fun had all the way. Can't recommend it enough - it's not often you see a Danish man with orange glasses! Get down there all, take the mickey out of a mad Dane and take in all the sights of Copenhagen while getting a great suntan - I'm burning up right now!! Steve, Portsmouth, UK

Mike is everything you ever wanted for in a guide: wonderful, self-deprecating sense of humour, sound knowledge of the city and its history, excellent cycling skills, consideration for his guests – an overall lovely fellow with just that hint of mischief. En-route back to Vesterbrogade, we cycled on the wrong side of the road, proving that he is as he states on his website "Copenhagen's undisputed King of the Road and every mother's nightmare of a son-in-law". Mike has that ability of making you feel like you have been good friends for quite some time, peppering his stories with personal anecdotes and quite willing, if probed, to share his opinions on all matters—from food to politics. During the tour, apart from stopping at the landmarks mapped out on his tour, he'd also make a point of pulling up at certain stops to point out personal favourites like restaurants and cafes. Highly recommended—not only is it a marvellous tour but also an efficient way of navigating the city and learning how to get around. - Trisha, London

Biking Copenhagen with Mike is decidedly the best way for any kind of traveler to see this fabulous city. I'm a veteran two-wheeling tourist, and much too independent – and impatient – to do tours. Happily I made the exception here because I had little time and wanted to get the lay of the land quickly so I could explore on my own more efficiently later. The one drawback of sightseeing while cycling is that you have to stop to look at the map, and some areas of Copenhagen can be rather confusing. So, having someone give me a crash course (not literally) on how to get around was great. I found the tour was a rare bargain in this expensive city, and very convenient. No need for a reservation that would tie me down, I could just show up at the central train station at 10 any day of the week rain or shine and he'd be there. The standard tour is about three hours and takes in all the must-sees, with just the right number of stops and short talks about the history, etc. Mike also threw in a bit of social commentary I found interesting and insightful, but he also cordially invited me to tell him to shut up anytime I found the "guidance" boring or annoying. But he's so well-traveled (and multi-lingual) and delightful that I didn't have to employ that option and actually pried him for even more info and insights. Mike also offers an "alternative" tour, which my group opted for, that includes some of the grittier neighborhoods and some off-the-beaten track sights, such as a little enclave of tiny bungalows with lovely gardens. They were built early last century to give urban families a retreat from the grind of the inner-city, where some of the poorer neighborhoods became death traps during an epidemic. The alternative tour is also just a nice ride and, though it added an hour to the tour, there was no extra charge. Copenhagen is mostly flat and Mike's ride is quite slow and very safe. I was lucky my group was small even though the summer rush had already started, but you can tell Mike can manage a crowd the way he nimbly herds any stagglers. My group included a mutinous 7-year-old who cried through the first half of the trip, then threw his bike down and just started walking away. His family (I was surprised to see because they were Americans who typically coddler their kids) said something like "Just let him go, he always does this." But Mike retrieved him and whatever he said on their walk back jollied the little fella enough to get him to hang on through the remaining two hours with no more tears! I'm always trying to convince people whatever their fitness level that bikes are the best way to sightsee. It's just too slow and hard on the feet -- or the wallet -- to do otherwise, especially if you don't have a lot of time. Copenhagen is particularly the case for this: It isn't called the world's best biking city for nothing! There are bike lanes on every major road and many of the smaller streets, and the paths along the many waterways and parks are wonderful. But still, though it is so user friendly, even for hard-core bikers like me, getting all the must-sees in without getting lost or having constantly to consult the map gave me plenty of time to explore on my own later, and Mike is great for giving tips on how to do just that – and just about anything else you want to know about the city. Obviously, I can't say enough about how great this tour is. I hope all will try it. And once you're hooked on the touring on two-wheels thing, start lobbying your city to get better bike paths! G. Cooke, Washington D.C.

Imagine Kopenhagen on a dreary rainy day, the sun is on leave and the sky is grey. Temperature +5 degrees Celcius, a cold wind blowing from across the Baltic sea. It feels like minus 5. Because of this weather, being a Dutchman, I am immediately feeling at home in this lovely city. Friendly architecture, lots of water, in the sky and in the lakes. Danes are in general a very friendly people, even in the traffic. A wonderfull experience, which every visitor should make. Thanks a lot, Mike! Jeroen from Bergen, the Netherlands

We highly recommend Mikes Bike tour of Copenhagen. We wanted to: a/ Have a good look around the place, b/ Get to know the Copenhagen of yesterday and today, and c/ Enjoy an outdoor experience (despite the season - coming from Detroit helps!). The tour and Mike gave us all that plus lots more. Wonderful Copenhagen stories were told by Mike, who so obviously loves his hometown and his enthusiasm we felt kind of contagious: we left Copenhagen only wanting to go back! Thanx Mike from Lisa, Detroit, MI, USA

Hi Mike, what a good time I had bicycling Copenhagen with you. I appreciate your patience and fine spirit, the tour was just excellent and the coffee stop on Christiania in the safest cafe in the world was so cosy. In total your bike tour was the highlight of my visit to Copenhagen. Dont forget to visit me in Munich. Nicole Herzberger, Munich, Germany

Even though I am an American Ex-pat, I still learned so much from Mike and the tour. He gave us the "Danish"-inside 411. And, he was super flexible with our group, even changing the tour up for us! Change is good, right Mike!? I highly recommend this tour and we will be doing it again with people who come to visit, I am sure! Thanks for a great tour, Mike! Despite the somehow wet and windy weather conditions, Mikes bike tour was super. I felt the coverage was excellent including the well known sigths but in particular the off the beaten track parts were great. Charismatic Mike surely knows his city, sharing it all around with insight and enthusiasm. Thanks to Mike. Julia, Portland, Oregon, USA

What a great tour of Copenhagen we had with Mike. "Youre visiting the happiest nation in the world" Mike told us at the starting point. Mike is the living proof of such statement. On this rather cold, windy and wet day his highly spirited guidance not only kept all of us going, but loving it! "Americas last true friend in Europe" as "Crazy Mike" claims to be certainly looks after his guests as we were his best friends. Upon concluding the tour I felt knowing Copenhagen better than my hometown of Atlanta despite only been in town for less than one day. Thanks for a great day out at a very affordable cost! August & friends, Atlanta, GA, USA

There really is no better way to see Copenhagen than by cycling around it with Mike. He has an intimate knowledge of the city which he shares openly with all those who accompany him. Not only do you see the major tourist attractions, you get to see the parts of Copenhagen few tourists explore. Mike is entertaining, welcoming, knowledgeable and enthusiastic, which makes for a thoroughly enjoyable and excellent value day out. Highly recommended! Matt, United Kingdom

When I grew up in NYC my mum told me stories about her trip to Europe back in 1952. She had expected Paris to be the city of her journey, but it all got wrong as Copenhagen came in top of her list. The little mermaid, the green towers of the city, the fancy design, HC Andersen etc, all was part of my childhood. Many years on I am finally here and yesterday on the great bike tour with Mike I got to love Copenhagen with my own eyes. Copenhagen is as marvellous as I ever imagined. The autum colours provided an awesome frame to Mikes inspiring guidance through our city. Thanks again for a super bike ride, I shall return one day! Jefferson, Los Angeles, CA.

In particular I enjoyed the many old, beautiful buildings on Christianshavn. Good initiative Mike with your bike business, suppose you got tired of all the bullshit out there! I was on the City Tour and on the Countryside Tour and I enjoyd both tours very much. You can see so much of the city. For me it was wonderful to see how green the city is and how much parts of the city are more looking like a smal city at the countryside. And all the nature around the city! I like that. And I liked going along the beach at the Countryside Tour and after struggling against the wind having a stop for swimming in the cold sea. And I also liked the narrow streets of cobblestones in Dragør with the old litle yellow houses. I have seen so many places I want to visit a second time with more time for every place. And when I come back I will also go on the Nordic Light Tour. That must be a very fantastic tour. Viviane, Ohrensen, Germany

All, After seven city bike rides throughout Europe and the US, Mike's Bike Tour is by far the best. Not only does Mike guide you through his city's highlights, he also takes you on a fascinating ride into the Danish psyche, answering pointed questions in flawless English about his fellow city/country folk with a zeal which does not belie his enthusiasm for his hometown. And a stunning hometown it is. Mike is supremely generous and gracious with his personal anecdotes, historical knowledge and his singular choice of city-sights. And after he sort of slapped hands with (or high-five'd) one of the originating residents of Christiania (twice!) while bicycling us through the hippie enclave, then I instantly knew that Mike had definite street cred. The tour is worth every kroner spent. Groetjes, Monique and sister Nicole. Amsterdam and Madison, respectively

Mike, your evening ride through Copenhagen left us all a little gobsmacked in pure awe of the beauty of your place. Copenhagen is beautiful. The Citylakes - where I would love to reside - the lakes at Christiania, canal atmosphere on Christianshavn, all the magic detours in and out of sacred Copenhagen alleys and backways and the final ride back to the station along the harbour with that awesome moonshine leading our way. It was wonderful. Not to forget your energetic, hardcase entertainment of all us aussie girls. We all wish you good luck and if ever returning to Copenhagen, we will be back in the saddle once again. Cheers, Sally, Sydney, Australia
